This session offers an introduction to core computer vision concepts and their emerging applications in computational social science. We’ll explore how scholars are increasingly using image-based data—particularly emotional cues in visuals—to examine its impact on audience attitudes and online engagement. No prior technical experience is required, making this session ideal for researchers new to the field. By the end of the workshop, participants will have a solid understanding of how computer vision methods can inform and enhance research in the social sciences.
Sang Jung Kim, assistant professor in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication, will run the workshop.
